Oxford job hunters are missing out

Oxford welcomes back its former manager who says job hunters often miss out on opportunities because they leave details off their CVs.

Kathy Rusher and her growing team at Berry Recruitment interview all candidates rather than rely on written information.

Much employment advice says use only two pages for a CV, or list only work done in the last five years.

Those following this advice often miss out important details that can lead to better jobs.

The branch, based in Oxford House, John Smith Drive, covers a wide number of sectors including office, professional, hospitality and catering, and industrial – for both temporary and permanent positions.

And the highly-experienced Kathy has also recently introduced a new desk covering science-based roles.

She said: “I returned to Berry after a year away because I had been working just in the town and missed working across the county.

“One thing that I have noticed is that CV advice that people follow online encourages brevity and that leads to important omissions.

“At Berry Recruitment we interview and assess every candidate and often find experience they have which they’ve failed to mention and which can lead to a better-paid job.

“I believe you should put everything in a CV and the consultant or employer can take what they need.

“We have also added a desk that fills roles for Lab Operatives, Lab Technicians and associated jobs.

“There are a large number of science-based companies in Oxfordshire and they require certain types of employee.

“Generally it is still a candidates’ market but it is not just a higher salary that convinces them to take a job.

“It is also the company culture, work-life balance and the whole package that they consider.

“We place people in temporary and permanent roles and always have things that are suitable for students.

“The branch is growing quickly and we aim to add to our staff next year. Clients really do appreciate the way we do things because our thoroughness means the workers we supply are far more likely to be a good fit.”
